Genetic Genealogy & Unknown Parentage
Starting at $650
Focus: DNA Analysis and Biological Connections
Specialized research combining DNA analysis with traditional genealogy to investigate unknown biological parents, adoption mysteries, and family relationships. This service helps identify and clarify connections that may not be resolved through records alone.
This service does not include laboratory DNA testing. It is intended for the analysis and interpretation of existing DNA results in combination with genealogical research.
What’s Included:
Genetic Genealogy Research Phase: Focused analysis of your DNA matches and related family history using genetic genealogy methods and traditional research, scoped to your goals during your consultation.
DNA Match Analysis: Detailed review of relevant DNA matches across platforms such as AncestryDNA, 23andMe, MyHeritage, FamilyTreeDNA, or GEDmatch, depending on the information available.
Relationship Assessment: Evaluation of match relationships and shared match patterns to help identify how key matches may connect within your family.
Match Clustering and Network Analysis: Organization of DNA matches into genetic groups to help identify specific branches of your family and clarify possible biological connections.
Genealogical Correlation: Use of traditional records to support DNA findings and strengthen relationship conclusions when possible.
Genetic Research Report: A professionally written report of the research conducted, key findings, and recommended next steps, when applicable.
Source Citations: Findings are supported by source citations where applicable so the information is documented, clear, and verifiable.
Digital Copies of Relevant Records: When available, digital copies of records located during the research will be included with your report.
Ancestry Tree Updates: When requested, key documented findings may be added to an existing Ancestry tree provided by the client.
Ideal For:
Unknown parentage research
Biological family identification
Unexpected DNA results
Adoptees and others seeking biological answers
Relationship verification
Clients seeking guidance in interpreting DNA matches
Brick walls that may benefit from DNA analysis
How It Works
Every family history is unique, and research needs can vary considerably depending on the complexity of the case, the availability of records, and whether foreign language or DNA research is involved. I offer a free initial consultation to discuss your goals, review the information you already have, and recommend a research plan tailored to your case.
All research begins with a free consultation and a signed research agreement. You’ll receive a clear explanation of the proposed research, costs, and expected deliverables before any work begins.
If your research would benefit from additional work, I’ll explain what I recommend and provide a fixed quote for the next phase. Nothing is added without your approval, and there are never surprise charges.
Agency and law enforcement rates are available on request.
